"... pregnant."

It's amazing how one word has varying interpretations to so many different people.

If you fill in the blank with "I am..." To your mother, that probably means, "I am going to provide you with that grandchild you've been wanting forever. "

Your sister may be hearing, "Nana nana na…na…I get to be pampered by mom and not have to help with Thanksgiving dinner this year."

Your boss may hear, "I'm going to have a reason to call in, and this time, I really won't be able to help it. Sweet…paid time off…maternity leave is going to be great! And guess what…after that, I'm not coming back."

To your husband, that could mean many things. From "You're going to need to ask your boss for that raise, or change jobs." To "We're going on another health kick, because I'm carrying your child, and we're in this together!" Or, "I love you so much, and I can't wait to make you a daddy."

All your boyfriend may hear is, "I told you there's no such thing as 'protection.' What am I supposed to tell my parents?"

Your father could be hearing, "I'm sorry, Daddy. I went ahead and dated him, even though you told me you didn't like him. But at least we're going to have your first grand child." Or, "Now you're going to have a little girl to spoil, or maybe a little buddy to take fishing in a few years."

To you, this could mean, "Oh no, my college plans are scrapped. There goes my promotion. I guess my dream to go to law school ceases from here on out. This couldn't have happened at a worse time." Or, "I'm so happy! Finally, () will have a cousin to play with!"

As you can see, pregnancy is a big deal to everyone involved in your life. Whether the initial reactions are negative or positive, you are going to need all the help and support you can get. Preparing for a child requires a lot of time and effort, on your part and that of the people who love you.

Your time of pregnancy can be as joyous, stressful, or regretful as you want it to be. Your attitude is the one thing that can make or break you. So whether you look forward to parenting or dread it, your health and that of your child is in your hands.
